About Ravenna

Portage County, Ohio

Ravenna is a city of about 11,300 people (2020 census) and the county seat of Portage County, about 15 miles east of Akron. Benjamin Tappan founded it in 1799 and named it after Ravenna, Italy. The city also gave its name to the Ravenna Arsenal, a 21,418-acre Army site set aside in eastern Portage County in 1940. Ravenna is about 15 miles west of Newton Falls as the crow flies.

For dog owners, Ravenna is well placed. The paved Portage Hike & Bike Trail runs west from Ravenna to Kent. Nearby West Branch State Park has a fenced dog park on Rock Spring Road with separate areas for large and small dogs, plus a pond. Outside the dog park, dogs must stay leashed. After a day on the trail, let us take care of the cleanup at home.
