About Mantua
Portage County, Ohio
Mantua (pronounced “MAN-uh-way”) is a village of about 1,000 people (2020 census) in northern Portage County, along the Cuyahoga River. It was laid out in the 1840s as Mantua Station, a stop on the Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad, and was incorporated in 1898. For more than 45 years, the village has held its annual Potato Festival, complete with a parade and the Potato Stomp 15K.
Mantua is about 15 miles northwest of Newton Falls as the crow flies. Mantua anchors the western trailhead of the Headwaters Trail, a Portage Park District rail-trail heading east toward Garrettsville. Bring your dog on a leash between dawn and dusk and pack out what they leave. Back home, the yard is our job.
