About Garrettsville

Portage County, Ohio

Garrettsville is a village of about 2,400 people (2020 census) in northeastern Portage County. It was carved from parts of Hiram, Nelson, Freedom, and Windham townships. Colonel John Garrett III bought the land in 1803 and built a grist mill, and the village grew up around it. According to the local chamber of commerce, Garrettsville was the world’s largest maple syrup processing center in the early 1900s.

Garrettsville is about 9 miles northwest of Newton Falls as the crow flies. It’s also the east end of the Portage Park District’s Headwaters Trail, which runs west to Mantua. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail from dawn to dusk, and owners are expected to pick up after them. After a long walk on the Headwaters, let us take care of the cleanup in your back yard.
