About Cortland
Trumbull County, Ohio
Cortland is a city of about 7,100 people (2020 census) in Trumbull County, on the eastern shore of Mosquito Creek Lake. Samuel Bacon settled the area in 1807, and it was known as Baconsburg for much of the 1800s. Cortland is about 16 miles northeast of Newton Falls as the crow flies.
Cortland might be the dog-friendliest spot in our service area. Mosquito Lake State Park covers more than 7,000 acres of lake. Its Cooperation Station Dog Park is a 5-acre fenced, off-leash park with separate areas for small and large dogs and its own dog swim beach, and dogs aren’t allowed on the main swimming beach. Just up State Route 46, Trumbull County’s Eastlake MetroPark has a winter sledding hill and a connector trail to the Turkey Run Trail along the lake.
